In this Beginner’s Course in Ceramics you will learn how to create your own ceramic pieces using the most popular hand-building and decorating techniques.

Each week I will demonstrate how to make a particular form, such as a bowl, mug, vase and plant pot. I will also introduce techniques for decorating the surface, including painting with underglazes, slip trailing, sgraffito, mishima and wax resist.

By the end of the course, you will have a good understanding of working with clay and the techniques needed to hand-create any ceramic form you can imagine.

Participants are free to make and decorate as many pieces as they wish. Finished pieces will be fired and glazed.

Week 1: Making pinch pots and decorating with sgraffito and slip-trailing.

Week 2: Slab-building mugs and soap dishes. Transferring images to clay.

Week 3: Coil-building bowls and plant pots. Decorating with engobes.

Week 4: Dip glazing, brush-on glazing and using resists.
